PETALING JAYA: A teacher has been fined RM4,900 by the magistrates’ court in Muar for injuring students by throwing chairs at them, pulling their hair, and stuffing scrunched up paper into the mouth of one of them.
Shapril Ahmad, 39, pleaded guilty after four charges were read to him before magistrate Suzana Mokhtar, Harian Metro reported.
Advertisement“This is not how you discipline students. You are supposed to set a good example for them, this is not how you do it,” she said.
The magistrate also ordered Shapril to be jailed for 13 months if he fails to pay the fine.

Read more On the first to third charges, Shapril was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to three students aged 14 by slapping and throwing chairs at them.
The offences were committed in a classroom at a secondary school in Muar at 8.30am on Nov 13 last year.

On the fourth charge, Shapril was accused of using criminal force on a 14-year-old student by hitting the back of their head, pulling the student’s hair, and stuffing paper into the pupil’s mouth.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Nur Amieerah Alluddin, while Shapril was represented by Nurain Sakina Zakri from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
