Giving out duit raya is rooted in the tradition of enticing children to visit their elders, a tradition befitting Hari Raya celebrations throughout the years.

The tradition has since stuck on, and some families (like the one we are about to see) have turned the act of giving duit raya into a jackpot ceremony, with the biggest amount of money going out to the luckiest participant.

All in good fun, give this video a watch.

With the caption mentioning that it was a family tradition, an announcement was made beforehand.

“Don’t be sad if you receive an empty envelope.”

The ceremony begins with the head of this family shuffling the envelopes before distribution.

The process was done with almost zero bias.

“Within these 24 envelopes, 7 are empty. But those who received empty envelopes will be eligible to enter the bonus round.”

Entering the winner’s circle for round two, packets containing hundreds of ringgit were shared amongst the family members who made it to the winner’s circle, which meant no one was left empty-handed.
