Johor has several foodie spots that tend to go unnoticed by KLites due to the sheer distance. However, if you are ever on the way to Johor Bahru or Singapore, they may be worth checking out. One such place has to be Restoran Do Do Do.

Located in Tangkak, this is an old Chinese noodle restaurant that is famous for its beef broth. Locals and tourists alike tend to make pit stops here to enjoy a warm bowl of beef noodles. It helps that it’s just minutes away from the North-South Expressway exit.
The restaurant is housed in a strategic corner lot, with the dining space inside clean and spacious. Service is understandably faster on weekdays when the lunch crowd is manageable. On weekends, you will likely have to wait for a table, but service remains relatively fast.

When ordering the signature beef noodle soup, you can pick between kway teow, yellow mee, bee hoon or steamed rice. You can also choose whether you want to have your carbs with beef cubes, tendon or tripe.
Regardless of which carbs or proteins you choose, the beef broth is what the restaurant does best. It has a beautiful mahogany colour and a strong herbal scent. Tastewise, the broth has a rich, natural beef flavour with a strong aftertaste.
It is for this reason that most regulars prefer the soup version over the dry noodles. The broth just brings everything together perfectly. The dry noodle alternative is not bad per se, but it just cannot match up to the signature soup.
Three Treasures Bowl

For newcomers who are unsure exactly what to order, consider ordering the “Three Treasures” bowl. This menu item combines beef cubes, tendon and tripe in one serving. The tendon melts on the tongue, the tripe is tender and chewy and the beef is evenly cut.
Whatever you choose to order, be sure to try the housemade chilli sauce. It gives the umami of the beef noodles a nice, spicy kick. You can also add on to the flavour by rounding out your bowl with preserved veggies and chopped spring onions.
Worth your time?

Beef noodle bowls here will typically set you back between RM10 and RM15, so it’s more than worth the price. Thus, the next time you are down south, maybe take the time to check this place out and see if their beef noodles are to your liking.
