2022 has surely been an interesting year as we are easing into the normalcy that we used to know before the two years pandemic happened.
The last two years of Merdeka were spent in uncertainty and in seclusion during the lockdowns, with consideration of safety for others and the people around us. Last year alone, National Day festivities were celebrated with a minimum amount of hype and with tight SOPs and regulations following Covid-19 restrictions.
However, this year started the fire of Merdeka spirit with the spotlight focusing more on – you probably guessed it – Abang Bombas! With additional spotlight on other front liners from the police to the military, although a large group of ‘Abang Bomba’ really took more of the spotlight throughout.
What was the fuss and the excitement was really all about?
It started off with some people attending the Merdeka parade as people start to become more relaxed with the restrictions and the crowd start to build up, the occasion was joined and celebrated by the appearances of frontliners; namely the firefighters (translation for bomba), the police force, national military, navy army and as well as the national air force (which also garnered its own… fan service, so to speak).
Firefighters were seen flexing and stretching their muscles, more so focusing on their biceps during the whole parade as they stood on top of the truck. Fans were heard screaming in glee to see not only how muscular they were but also how spontaneous and amicable in engaging with the crowd by doing poses.
The firefighters, also endearingly and commonly addressed as ‘Abang Bomba’ were always regarded as the most appreciated national heroes – they never missed a beat to any distress and emergency calls. Witnessing this charming, funny, cheeky and still heartwarming side of them for everyone at a parade where everyone could share their pride as Malaysians for Independence Day was a pleasant change amidst the chaotic times during the pandemic.
Regardless, on top of the eye candies on their flexing muscles and adorable heart-shaped poses, there is always a lot of appreciation for our ‘Abang Bomba’.
So, whenever you need to call for Bomba, you’ll know that they’ll come to your rescue because those muscles and energy don’t lie!
