KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, has emphasised that any proposed changes to the education system must comply with Malaysia’s national education policy, with the Malay language as the cornerstone.
"Therefore, any proposal to recognise another education system must accept the Malay language and the history of Malaysia," he said.
"If anyone does not accept the Malay language, it is better not to stay in Malaysia."
Sultan Ibrahim made these comments during his Royal Address at the opening of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong also called for the national education system to be strengthened as the bedrock of nation-building, identity, and the country's future.
In addition, Sultan Ibrahim highlighted the need for stronger regulation of technology to prevent scams and maintain public order. He urged that crimes and issues related to race, religion, and royalty (3R) be dealt with decisively.
“The laws concerning national security and external threats should be swiftly enacted to preserve the harmony of all races and safeguard the sovereignty of the nation,” His Majesty said. - January 19, 2026
