KUALA LUMPUR – The death of British national Jordan Michael John Johnson-Doyle has left a quiet void at Healy Mac’s Irish Bar in Bangsar, where staff say the 25-year-old traveller made a lasting impression during what may have been one of his final nights.

Speaking to Scoop, a bartender who prefers to remain anonymous said Johnson-Doyle arrived alone, during peak hours, carrying a black bag – but he stood out in the crowd.

“Though we had many customers at that hour, he is still fresh in our memories,” the bartender said.

“He was one of the nicest customers I’ve ever met. Very respectful, very kind. Just a genuine soul.”

The bartender recalled how Johnson-Doyle spoke fondly about his family back in the UK, especially his mother.

“He really looked up to her. You could see it in how he talked – his love for her was sincere and deep.”

Another staff member said Johnson-Doyle also spoke glowingly about Kuala Lumpur, describing how much he enjoyed the city’s vibe and nightlife, especially the people’s friendliness.

“He told us he loved how social everyone here is. He made friends with people at the bar instantly and even joined our quiz night,” said the bartender.

According to staff, Johnson-Doyle spent much of the night in conversation and was last seen messaging his family on WhatsApp around 11.30pm.

“He was thoughtful till the end,” one said.

“Before leaving, he paid with his card and left us a very generous tip – one of the best we’ve ever received. That’s something we’ll never forget.”

On June 4, Kuala Lumpur police confirmed that Johnson-Doyle’s body was discovered near a lift shaft at a construction site at Bangsar Hill Park.

The identification was made by his uncle, who recognised him through several tattoos on his arms and chest.

An autopsy revealed that Johnson-Doyle died from a chest injury caused by falling. There were no signs of foul play, and police have classified the case as sudden death.

Johnson-Doyle had been travelling solo across Southeast Asia while working remotely as a software engineer for a US-based company.

His last known communication was on May 27. His family became concerned when they could no longer reach him and noticed his social media had gone quiet, prompting them to file a missing persons report.

Now, those who met him in his final hours say his memory lingers.

“We serve hundreds of people every week, but he was different,” said one bartender.

“It’s hard to believe he’s gone. No one deserves to go that way – especially someone so down-to-earth. We pray his kind soul rests in peace.” – June 9, 2025
