Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian mechanic was fined RM1,800 or two months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for threatening to a 12-year-old boy early this month.
Muhammad Liaman, 41, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing the offence against the boy.

“Kamu sudah cari masalah sama orang Timor, mati kamu (You’ve been looking for trouble with a Timorese, you’re dead).”

The prosecution informed the court that the victim’s father had lodged a police report, claiming that his son was slapped by a man, identified as the father of a boy, who was the victim’s friend.

The following day, Muhammad, still dissatisfied with the situation, summoned the complainant’s son and his friends and questioned them about who had pushed his son.

Duty counsel Jagnesh Jaya, representing Muhammad, requested a lenient sentence, stating that Muhammad is an Indonesian married to a local woman, with two children, and is the sole breadwinner of his family, working as a mechanic, adding that he has a valid passport.
Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik applied for a deterrent sentence as a lesson to Muhammad and the public.
Meanwhile, a man was charged with committing a similar offence to his mother.
Radmi Mohammad pleaded not guilty to threatening his mother, one Teng Hj Bulah, and family on Jan 11, at 8.05am, in a room at Kg Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya.
The prosecution, in applying for a pre-trial case management (PTCM), objected bail as the accused was staying in the same house with his mother.
Unrepresented, Radmi requested bail citing that he works as a labourer, a divorcee and taking care of his two children.
The court fixed March 14 for PTCM and ordered Radmi to be remanded further.
