Three charged with drug trafficking

TAWAU: Three people, including a suspected drug runner, a man accused of possessing fentanyl-laced liquid for vape cartridges and a mother of four, were charged in the Magistrate’s Courts here on Friday with trafficking more than 12kg of drugs last month.

Foreign national Mohd Nasrul, 19, was charged with trafficking 8,551.556g of fentanyl liquid after allegedly collecting the drugs from a J&T Express premises here.

The offence was allegedly committed at the roadside in Kampung Titingan, Batu 2, Jalan Apas, at about 4pm on Aug 28.

Local man Harman Anton, 40, a former prisoner, was separately charged with trafficking 2,611.56g of fentanyl liquid at a house in Jalan Abaca at about noon on Aug 29.

The drugs were allegedly found in a plastic courier package from Pos Laju.

No plea was recorded from Nasrul and Harman after the charges were read before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.

The court fixed Oct 12 for mention pending chemical and pathology reports.

Meanwhile, foreign national Len Jaujala, 40, was charged with trafficking 1,014.70g of methamphetamine at the back of a house in an oil palm area in Kampung Wakuba Gading, Jalan Apas, at about 9.40am on Aug 28.

Len, who allegedly entered Sabah illegally through Semporna in 2011 and worked as a plantation labourer, appeared before Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin.

The court fixed Oct 6 for mention pending the chemical and pathology reports.

All three, who were unrepresented, were charged under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The offence carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, with whipping of not less than 12 strokes if the death penalty is not imposed, upon conviction.

No bail was offered as the offence is non-bailable.
