
BEAUFORT: Three police officers were electrocuted while attempting to dislodge coconuts in front of the Weston police station, here, Thursday.
Two were from Kelantan and one was from Sarawak.
They were identified as Chiu Teck Siong, 40, Mohamad Nur Hafiz bin Ibrahim, 29, and Muhammad Raimi bin Ismarubee, 26.
Weston Fire and Rescue Station Chief Ishak Jabas confirmed the incident, saying it occurred at about 5.56pm. He said the department immediately dispatched seven personnel and several fire engines to the scene.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found that the three police officers succumbed to electric shock,” he said.
The victims were found lying on the ground with severe burn injuries caused by the electrocution.
Personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Health and Sabah Electricity were present at the scene. The bodies were taken to the hospital for post-mortem examination.
