TAWAU: Three couples were remanded for four days to assist investigations following a raid at a luxury homestay here early Wednesday that led to the seizure of suspected ketamine and ecstasy-laced liquid.
The six local suspects, comprising three men and three women aged between 20 and 39, were ordered to be remanded until Sept 30 by Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.
The order was issued after the magistrate allowed an application by Tawau police Narcotics Investigation Assistant Investigating Officer Sgt Sulaiman Rappeng to facilitate further investigations.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
According to the police, the six were arrested by a team from the Tawau District Police Headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division during a raid at 4.30am.
The raid followed information received about drug-related activities at the homestay, which had been rented by one of the female suspects.
The suspects were found together in an unlocked ground-floor room when police entered the premises.
A search of the room led to the discovery of a glass plate containing white powder suspected to be ketamine, a Dark Horse cigarette suspected to have been mixed with ketamine, and a glass jug containing about 659.16 millilitres of orange liquid suspected to contain ecstasy.
