LAHAD DATU: A large crocodile measuring 3.4 meters long was among three shot dead in an integrated operation at several locations around here on Thursday.
The 8am-4pm operation was jointly conducted by the Marine Police Force (MPF), police, Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, General Operations Force (Battalion 17), District Council and District Disaster Management Committee.
Sabah Region Four MPF Commander ACP Ahmad Ariffin said the operation was conducted in several areas to ensure the safety of residents from the threat of the reptiles.
“We conducted operations around the Lahad Datu Marine Police Base Jetty, the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) maritime area, Sungai Sabah Baru, Kampung Puyut, Sungai Sapagaya and Tabanak.

“All crocodiles brought ashore were handed over to the Lahad Datu Wildlife Department for further action,” he said, Friday.
He said the operation was carried out to control the crocodile population and reduce attacks on humans and crocodile attack cases in the waters of Lahad Datu.
“The operation went smoothly. There were no undesirable incidents,” he said.
