Three of five youths accompanying a wedding procession in a car died and two others were critically injured after the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a tree in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, on Saturday afternoon.
Sources said that shortly after the wedding procession reached Khichian village, the five youths left for the nearby village of Salempura-Bajuwala on an errand in a white Maruti Dzire adorned with flowers. On the way, the car suddenly went out of control and crashed violently into a tree.
Witnesses said the impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled and its engine was flung nearly 150 ft away. After the accident, the injured youths tried to get out of the wreckage. Two collapsed under a tree in a nearby field and died on the spot. Local residents rushed the remaining three to the government hospital in Raisinghnagar. One youth died during treatment, while the other two were referred to a hospital in Sri Ganganagar.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Prithvi Raj and Babu Lal, both residents of Saharanpura village. The youth who died at the hospital was Ghanshyam, a resident of Chak 5-KYD village.
The injured — Mohan Lal and Mohit, also from Chak 5-KYD — are undergoing treatment in Sri Ganganagar.
The accident turned the wedding celebration into mourning, with grief sweeping through the families of the deceased and the injured. Police have registered a case and conducted the postmortem examinations.
