Three members of a family were killed while another was injured after being hit by a Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) truck at the Maju Junction traffic light intersection on Jalan Sultan Ismail here early today.
KUALA LUMPUR: Three members of a family were killed while another was injured after being hit by a Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) truck at the Maju Junction traffic light intersection on Jalan Sultan Ismail here early today.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident occurred at about 1 am when the unladen Isuzu ‘Black Maria’ truck was travelling from the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Office towards Chow Kit for an operation targeting illegal immigrants.
He said preliminary investigations found that the truck, driven by a 43-year-old local man, entered the intersection against a red light with its beacon lights and siren activated.

“At the same time, a Proton Saga driven by a 50-year-old local man, which was travelling straight through a green light, was unable to avoid the truck and collided with it,” he said in a statement today.
Following the collision, the truck lost control and skidded before hitting four pedestrians, all members of the same family, as well as an Inokom Matrix driven by a 38-year-old local man.
Mohd Zamzuri said the three pedestrians who died at the scene were a 53-year-old man and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12.
His 55-year-old wife sustained injuries to her head, arm and both legs and is currently receiving treatment in the Red Zone at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
The drivers of the JIM truck, Proton Saga and Inokom Matrix were uninjured.
“The driver of the JIM lorry and the driver of the Proton Saga have been detained to assist with the investigation. Breathalyser and preliminary urine screening tests found them negative for alcohol and drugs,” he said.
He added that police were conducting further investigations at the scene, including obtaining CCTV footage and identifying independent witnesses, to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
