TAWAU: Police detained three foreign men suspected of entering the country through an unauthorised route during an operation against undocumented migrants at Tawau Public Jetty on Friday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the three, aged between 25 and 52, were detained by the Task Force Unit of the District Internal Security and Public Order Division while conducting surveillance based on public information.
He said the men were spotted behaving suspiciously while walking past a Royal Malaysia Police checkpoint, but checks found no prohibited items and they were instead found without valid identification documents.
Rosdi said initial questioning led police to suspect the three had entered the country through an alternative route that was not gazetted as an official entry and exit point in Tawau.
He said they were detained and investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), while urging the public to provide information on suspected undocumented entry activities to assist police in maintaining security and public order.
