Three held in Beluran drug crackdown

BELURAN: Police arrested two local men suspected of drug trafficking and a Filipino believed to be a drug user in three separate arrests during Op Tapis Narkotik in Paitan and Beluran between Wednesday and early Thursday.

Beluran police chief Supt Hasan Majid said a 34-year-old local man was arrested at about 9.50pm by the roadside in Paitan town, where police allegedly found 50.25 grammes of suspected syabu worth about RM5,000, and initial tests also returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, with the case being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

About 10 minutes later at the same location, police arrested a 27-year-old local man after allegedly finding four plastic packets containing 5.10 grammes of suspected syabu worth an estimated RM561 concealed inside a cigarette box, and he also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, with investigations proceeding under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In a separate arrest at about 12.30am in the Labuk estate area, Beluran, Hasan said police detained a 22-year-old Filipino man after allegedly finding 0.08 grammes of suspected syabu worth about RM50, and the suspect, who also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He said all three suspects were taken to the Beluran district police headquarters' Narcotics Investigation Office for further investigation, adding that police would continue intensifying operations against drug abuse and trafficking while urging the public to provide information on drug-related activities.
