KUALA LUMPUR – Three Malaysian criminals with more than 80 previous offences, recently deported from the United Kingdom (UK), have been detained at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, India.
They are believed to be members of a gang led by an individual known as Captain Praba.
Sources told Scoop that the trio, all in their 30s, were arrested last Sunday after their identities appeared on an Interpol Red Notice.
They are allegedly involved in a series of high-profile violent crimes, including murder and arson, in the Klang and Banting districts. The suspects are currently under maximum-security supervision at the airport.
“They were issued a ‘No Transit Landing’ (NTL) notice in Manchester, UK, and directed to return to Mumbai, India, their original point of departure,” a source said.
“Upon arrival, Indian authorities detained them and barred them from entering the country or passing through immigration control.”
A team of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers has been dispatched to Mumbai to oversee the extradition process.
“At present, PDRM is coordinating with Indian authorities to bring the criminals back to Malaysia. If there are no obstacles, they are expected to be returned in the near future,” the source added.
Ten PDRM officers are expected to escort the trio back once the extradition process is complete. The suspects are being held in a high-security facility at the airport before being handed over to Malaysian authorities.
“Pending any complications, they will arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) under police custody and will be transferred to the Sepang District Police Headquarters.
“After documentation procedures, they will be brought before the Sepang Magistrate’s Court for further action,” the source said.
The arrests follow a large-scale crackdown in September last year, when 17 members of the gang were detained in an operation known as Ops Jack Sparrow across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Perak.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the gang, believed to have been active since 2023, comprises 33 members.
Captain Praba has been identified as the leader. Members are suspected of committing violent crimes, including murder, armed attacks, group robberies and arson.
Initial investigations indicated that the crackdown was prompted by a violent attack in Taman Sentosa, Klang, earlier last year, in which a man was assaulted by a group armed with firearms and machetes.
