THREE men were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court today after pleading guilty to committing mischief by splashing paint outside a man’s home in Brickfields in March.
Chin Zi Ping, 34, Tieu Boon Chow, 34, and Oii Hong Leong, 38, entered guilty pleas before Magistrate S Mageswary after the charges were read out to them by a court interpreter.
The court ordered the prison terms to commence from the date of their arrest, which was 16 April.
According to the charge, the men were accused of wilfully causing damage by splashing paint on the front of a man’s house, a Perodua Axia car, and a Yamaha Y135 motorcycle, resulting in an estimated RM10,000 in losses.
The offence took place at around 4.50am on 29 March at a residence in the Brickfields district and was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
The section stipulates a punishment of imprisonment ranging from one to five years, or a fine, or both, for acts of mischief causing damage exceeding RM25, if convicted.
Earlier, lawyer Nurul Diyana Basher of the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), representing all three accused, urged the court to consider a lenient sentence, noting that the men had family responsibilities.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farhana Mohamad Poad requested a commensurate sentence, stressing the financial loss suffered by the victim. - May 28, 2025
