Three men plead not guilty to assault and disorderly conduct at Klang police station

THREE men have pleaded not guilty to a series of charges arising from a violent incident at Meru Police Station last Monday evening, which involved disorderly conduct, assault, threats, and property damage.

The accused, 44-year-old lorry driver A. Magendran, 38-year-old lorry driver B. Kalairasan, and 39-year-old lorry attendant P. Gopinath, entered their pleas separately before Magistrate Nor Azilah Mat on Friday (March 6).

According to court records, the trio are charged under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967 for engaging in disorderly behaviour, including making noise and fighting inside the police station premises. Conviction carries a maximum fine of RM500, imprisonment of up to six months, or both.

They also face charges of causing injury to a 29-year-old man using a helmet and an iron bar, an offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison term of 10 years, a fine, whipping, or a combination of these penalties.

In addition, B. Kalairasan faces a separate charge of committing mischief by damaging a television set at the police station, an offence under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

P. Gopinath is also accused of issuing criminal threats to a 24-year-old man under Section 506 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to two years in jail, a fine, or both.

All offences were alleged to have occurred at 9.47pm on Monday, March 2. The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutors Salman Alfarisi Nawawi and Ahmad Sulfie Abu Hassan, while all three defendants were represented by lawyer A. Biranta.

The court granted bail of RM13,000 each to Kalairasan and Gopinath, while Magendran was released on RM9,000 bail. They were ordered to report monthly to the nearest police station. The court scheduled the next mention for May 25. - March 6, 2026
