Police detain three more suspects in the Meru station brawl, with all eight now remanded over a security services turf war, as authorities review shop lot station safety.

SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested three more individuals in connection with a violent brawl at the Meru Police Station in Klang earlier this week.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed the arrests, stating the three men aged between 38 and 44 have been remanded until tomorrow and Saturday.

He added that the remand orders for five other suspects arrested earlier have been extended until tomorrow.

Preliminary investigations indicate the brawl stemmed from a dispute over a security services territory at a housing construction site, with Shazeli noting all suspects were known to each other.

“Some of the suspects also had previous criminal records, including for murder, attempted murder, gang robbery and housebreaking,” he said at a media conference today.

Shazeli revealed one suspect is wanted under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959, while another tested positive for benzodiazepine.

Police have seized a helmet and a metal pipe believed to have been used as weapons during the incident, which left no police personnel injured.

The police chief said security at stations operating from shop lots, like the one in Meru, will now be reviewed and enhanced.

“The Meru Police Station is a shop lot, compared to other police stations that are fenced up and have sentries on duty,” he explained, highlighting its limited space and single entrance as a weakness.

The case is being investigated under multiple sections of the Penal Code, the Police Act 1967, and the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

Klang Utara police had previously detained five men aged between 28 and 41 following the Monday incident.
