KUALA LUMPUR — Only one of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin’s four children sought by the anti-graft authorities are in Malaysia, with the other three abroad.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban told New Straits Times that the three left Malaysia in late January and early February.

He declined to state which countries they had gone to, but added that his department will provide information to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for its investigation.

MACC is seeking the four children of the late finance minister to assist investigations under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009.

MACC identified them as Asnida Abdul Daim; Md Wira Dani Abdul Daim; and brothers Muhammed Amir Zainuddin and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin.

Lawyers representing the four individuals disputed the implication that their clients were evading authorities.

In a statement yesterday, counsel Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh said the MACC had notified them on February 25 that the children were required to attend an interview on March 11.

They further contended that the public release of the children’s names, photographs and residential addresses was inappropriate.

The lawyers said the move appeared designed to create the impression that their clients were absconding, and suggested it was meant to deflect attention from calls for a royal commission of inquiry into allegations involving MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki and the commission.

The MACC has urged members of the public with information on the four individuals’ whereabouts to contact investigating officer Mohamad Daeem Mohd Ali at 017-9127217 or email mohamad.daeem@sprm.gov.my.

Information can also be channelled to Ahmad Aiman Ramly at 011-61930814 (ahmad.aiman@sprm.gov.my), Muhamad Ridhwan Mat Hussain at 019-9895174 (ridhwan.hussain@sprm.gov.my), or Hardiansyah Ismail at 013-5639147 (hardiansyah@sprm.gov.my). - February 28, 2026
