Three Penang eateries shut after discovery of rat droppings in kitchen

THREE restaurants in Georgetown were ordered to close for 14 days after the discovery of rat droppings on the kitchen floor and washing area at these premises.

The eateries were among several premises in Lebuh Tek Son, Jalan Penang and Lebuh Pantai inspected during the integrated operation yesterday involving the Penang Island City Council's (MBPP) licensing department and the state Immigration Department.

In a statement, the council said the operation focused primarily on cleanliness and the foreign workers employed at these premises.

"These three premises were ordered to shut down for 14 days immediately. All of the premises also failed to provide scheduled pest control," the MBPP said in the statement.

The council said the closure was made under the MBPP”s Food Establishment Act By-laws 1991.

The MBPP said the immigration department arrested six foreign workers at two of the premises during the operation.

"Five of them did not have valid travelling documents while the other was found to have overstayed," the statement said. - September 28, 2024
