
Kota Kinabalu: Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah vows to address the lack of rubbish bins as well as improve the cleanliness and infrastructure at the Likas Bay public park.
He acknowledged that the three issues must be resolved immediately considering the area is heavily visited by the urban community.
Sabin said the locations for trash bins had been identified so visitors do not have to walk far to maintain cleanliness in the area.
“Likas Bay public park is one of the main attractions for foreign tourists. Of course, problems like this should be dealt with immediately so that it is welcoming for visitors from all walks of life.

“There is rubbish inserted between piles of stones due to the lack of rubbish bins. Similarly, slow garbage pickups cause foul smell for traders and visitors.”
He said this to reporters after a walkabout with City Hall officials and staff on Sunday morning. Also present was City Hall Director General, Junainah Abbie.
Dr Sabin said another aspect that will be emphasised is creating more safety signs for pedestrians, joggers and those who use cycling facilities.
“We will also plant more trees and flowers in specific locations so that the park is user-friendly.
“The city will pay attention to the cleanliness aspect of the beach. I will meet with the Beach Cleaning Contractor to get their views regarding the garbage problem around the coastal area,” Dr Sabin said.
In related developments, he said he would be paying attention to the nearby Anjung Selera food court.
