SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to occur in Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor until 11pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 8.20pm on Facebook, the agency said similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Perak (Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak and Muallim), Pahang (Raub) and Johor (Batu Pahat).
“Meanwhile in East Malaysia, inclement weather is also expected in Sarawak: Sibu (Selangau), Kapit (Kapit) and Bintulu (Tatau),” it said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
