SEMPORNA: Three lobster sellers at the Semporna Fish Market were fined RM900 by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for failing to display price tags for their products.
The action was taken during an integrated operation conducted with the Semporna District Council on Wednesday, said KPDN Chief Enforcement Officer Dr Jong Jee Leong.
A total of 40 business premises at the market were inspected during the operation following a viral social media post alleging a fraud incident involving Chinese tourists and local lobster sellers.
Preliminary investigations found the incident had actually taken place six months ago and was only re-shared on a Facebook page on October 21.
Jong reminded all traders to comply with existing laws and urged the public to report any price irregularities or unethical trade practices through KPDN’s official channels.
