A FAMILY day celebration turned tragic when a three-year-old boy was found drowned in a swimming pool at a guesthouse in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on Tuesday evening.
According to sources, the child had been at the guesthouse with his parents and seven other families from Temerloh, Pahang. The gathering included a swimming pool and a series of family day activities.
“Around 10.50 pm, the father’s brother-in-law noticed the boy floating in the pool. He immediately jumped in to rescue him and administered breathing assistance while waiting for the ambulance,” a source said.
The ambulance arrived approximately 40 minutes later and provided emergency care before transporting the child to Melaka Hospital.
He was treated in the Emergency Department but was pronounced dead at 11.45 pm and later taken to the Forensic Medical Department for a post-mortem examination.
Volunteers from Team UKVJ Melaka then collected the body and delivered it to the family home in Kampung Sungai Nipah, Sungai Besar, Selangor, for burial.
Deputy Superintendent Azrul Mohamed, Acting Chief of Alor Gajah Police District, confirmed that the case is being investigated by the D11 Sexual, Women and Children Investigation Division of the Melaka Police Headquarters.
“The case involves a three-year-old boy who was brought to the emergency ward at Melaka Hospital unconscious and later pronounced dead. The post-mortem determined the cause of death as drowning,” he said.
He added that both parents will be called in to assist with the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 in relation to alleged child neglect leading to death. - November 3, 2025
