Thunderstorm activity across Haryana till June 5 due to western disturbances, with the weather department ruling out a chance of heatwave conditions in the state over the next five days.

While temperatures in southern Haryana, including Gurugram, are expected to rise on Monday intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity are likely to keep maximum temperatures in check.

Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar and Bhiwani on June 1, accompanied by gusty winds between 40 and 50 kmph.

On June 2, similar weather conditions are expected at isolated places across the state, with wind speed remaining between 40 and 50 kmph.

For June 3, light to moderate rain is forecast at isolated places over Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Nuh, Palwal, Faridabad, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri. Thunderstorm winds are again expected to remain between 40 and 50 kmph.

Rain is likely to increase further on June 4. Light to moderate rain is expected at a few places over Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Nuh and Palwal, while isolated places in the remaining districts may also receive rain.

Light rain is likely at isolated places in parts of the state on June 5 as well.

‘Few places’ correspond to 26-50 per cent of an area, and ‘isolated places’ refers to 1-25 per cent coverage.

“The day temperature in south Haryana will rise on Monday. However, due to thunderstorm activity largely remaining on and off in the state for the next five days, maximum temperatures are expected to remain stable, and heatwave conditions are unlikely to develop,” said Surender Paul, Director, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh.

On Sunday, Haryana’s average maximum temperature remained 7.4°C below normal. Sirsa recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 37°C.
