Thunderstorm warning issued for 10 states until 5pm

MetMalaysia warns of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across 10 states and several Sarawak divisions until late afternoon today.

KUALA LUMPUR: A severe weather warning is in effect for much of Peninsular Malaysia and parts of Sarawak until 5pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued the alert at noon, forecasting thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

The warning covers the entire states of Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

It also includes the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

On the East Coast, the alert involves the Gua Musang area in Kelantan.

In Terengganu, the districts of Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman are affected.

In Sarawak, the warning applies to the divisions of Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei and Sibu.

The districts of Sibu and Kanowit within the Sibu division are specifically mentioned.

The alert also covers the Mukah division, including Tanjung Manis, Daro and Matu.

In the Kapit division, the Song district is forecast to experience the severe weather.
