Thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast for seven states

Seven states face thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 6 pm today, with warnings issued for multiple districts across Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Johor and Sabah.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a severe weather warning for seven states. Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to persist until 6 pm today.

The warning, issued at 2.30 pm, lists multiple districts across the affected states. In Kedah, the alert covers Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu, while Seberang Perai Selatan is affected in Penang.

A large portion of Perak is also at risk. The districts include Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak and Batang Padang.

In Pahang, the forecast covers Cameron Highlands, Jerantut, Kuantan and Rompin. The affected areas in Selangor are Klang, Petaling and Kuala Langat.

Johor’s Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru districts are also under alert. The warning extends to several regions in Sabah.

These include the Interior divisions of Nabawan and Tambunan, and the West Coast areas of Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Ranau. Tawau and Sandakan, including Tongod, Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan, are also affected.
