Tiger attack suspected in Perak as several cattle found dead or missing

AUTHORITIES in Perak are investigating a suspected tiger attack after multiple cattle were discovered dead or unaccounted for in Bukit Bangkong, Tanah Hitam, near Chemor

Perak Police Chief, Commissioner Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, confirmed that a livestock owner had reported several of his cattle killed and missing.

 The incident came to light when the owner filed a report at the Tanah Hitam police station at approximately 6.30pm on Friday, 5 December, noting that two of his cattle had been found dead with bite marks, while five others were missing.

“Following the report, police personnel from the Tanah Hitam station and personnel from the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) were deployed to the area to conduct initial assessments and monitoring,” he said in a statement on Saturday, 6 December.

He added that Perhilitan had installed camera traps at the affected site to confirm the presence and movements of the tiger believed to be in the area.

Monitoring efforts are ongoing, with information shared among relevant agencies to ensure effective risk assessment, safeguard residents, and manage wildlife threats.

The public has been urged to report any relevant information immediately to the Tanah Hitam police station or Perhilitan to assist investigations and facilitate swift safety measures.

“I advise residents to remain cautious, avoid approaching forest fringes, and refrain from provoking wild animals for their own safety,” Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said.

Bukit Bangkong lies approximately 20 kilometres from Ipoh, with Chemor falling under the Tambun parliamentary constituency. - December 6, 2025
