German police have shot dead a tiger that escaped from a private facility near the eastern city of Leipzig, a spokeswoman said on Sunday.
The police spokeswoman said one man suffered minor injuries in the incident. “There is no longer any danger to the public,” she added.
The tiger was killed in a garden area after escaping from a privately run enclosure in Schkeuditz, on the outskirts of Leipzig. Authorities have not yet determined how the animal managed to get out.
An injured man was rescued from the enclosure and taken to the hospital. No further details initially available. In Schkeuditz, a tiger tamer is known to keep big cats in an industrial estate.
Police said there is currently no indication that any other animals have escaped. Officers plan to deploy a drone to search the area and confirm that no animals remain at large.
According to media reports, the trainer from Leipzig had faced repeated allegations in the past regarding her keeping of tigers.
