In a bizarre incident, a p-hailing worker was apprehended by the police for setting fire to an auxiliary police car and subsequently uploading a video of the act on the TikTok application in an apparent bid for attention. The 25-year-old suspect was arrested in Flora Damansara, and authorities confiscated a hammer and a petrol-filled water bottle believed to have been used in the incident.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid revealed that preliminary investigations indicated the suspect's motive was to garner high viewership on TikTok. The suspect, identified as a food delivery rider, not only recorded the act but also featured himself in the video. The incident occurred at 1:42 am near the Mutiara Damansara mass rapid transit (MRT) station, where a car belonging to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad's auxiliary police was set ablaze, allegedly by a Molotov cocktail.

The viral video showed the suspect standing near the burning car, accompanied by a caption expressing satisfaction with the destructive act. The police, upon arresting the individual, seized potential evidence, highlighting the potential dangers posed by individuals seeking attention through destructive actions on social media platforms.

Further details revealed that the suspect had tested positive for morphine, although he had no prior criminal record. The motive behind the arson remains rooted in the suspect's desire for online notoriety, shedding light on the lengths some individuals go to for social media attention.

In response to the incident, Mohamad Fakhruddin emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stating that the suspect would be remanded for further questioning. The case underscores the challenges authorities face in addressing unconventional crimes facilitated or glorified through social media platforms.

As the suspect awaits legal proceedings, it becomes essential to assess the potential consequences and deterrents for such actions. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the role social media plays in shaping individuals' behavior and the need for responsible use of these platforms. Authorities must stay vigilant to prevent the glorification of criminal acts online and address the underlying issues that drive individuals to seek attention through destructive means.
