TikTok partners with Content Forum and PAGE to train parents on teen safety features, building on its #ThinkTwice digital literacy initiative

KUALA LUMPUR: TikTok has launched a new train-the-trainer workshop series called #ThinkTwice Training to empower parents and community members with practical online safety skills.

The initiative expands TikTok’s digital literacy efforts beyond awareness into actionable training.

It builds on the strong engagement of the #ThinkTwice campaign in Malaysia, which has garnered nearly 400 million views on educational content.

The campaign’s multilingual knowledge hub has also received over 1.4 million visits.

For its inaugural launch, TikTok partnered with the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia and the Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia.

Malaysia Head of Public Policy at TikTok, Firdaus Fadzil, said the platform aims to make parents’ lives easier through Safety by Design principles.

He noted that teen accounts on TikTok have more than 50 preset privacy and security settings automatically enabled by default.

“#ThinkTwice Training empowers parents to have peace of mind by learning to customise their teens’ accounts with Family Pairing in a few simple clicks,” Fadzil said.

Chief Executive Officer of Content Forum, Mediha Mahmood, reinforced that digital skills are essential life skills.

She stated that equipping parents with knowledge allows the community to collectively raise resilient and responsible teenagers.

“Instead of shutting teens out, we should be guiding them; letting them learn to navigate the digital world with our support and with the right safeguards in place,” Mahmood said.

Honorary Secretary of PAGE, Tunku Munawirah Putra, welcomed the initiative to empower parents with practical skills.

She emphasised that preparing teens for the real world includes guiding their digital participation, which holds economic value.

A key part of the recent training was an interactive safety simulation demonstrating TikTok’s various safety features.

These features include Screen Time Limit under Family Pairing, Private Account setting, Restricted Mode, and Creator Care Mode.

TikTok creator Audrey (@4feet9) said the training helped her understand the detailed safety tools available on the platform.

“It reinforced that parenting in the digital age is not about banning, it is about guiding, having open conversations, and working together with our children to manage risks responsibly,” she said.

Fellow creator Sufina (@wfsufina) added that guidance and education are more sustainable than simply banning access.

“Children today are very resourceful, and if they are pushed away from regulated platforms, they may end up in spaces that are even less safe,” Sufina noted.

TikTok aims to conduct #ThinkTwice Training workshops with various local communities throughout the year.
