TikTok Removes All May 13 Content, Urges People to Report Should They Find More

Following the incident in which Malaysians were posting sentiments on the tragic May 13, 1969 racial crisis on TikTok, in regards to the on-going fiasco that is the 15th General Elections (GE15) and the process of selecting our 10th Prime Minister, TikTok has officially taken down such thoughtless content.

In a statement shared with WORLD OF BUZZ, TikTok shared that they do not condone such themes to be posted on their platform.

“At TikTok, we have zero tolerance against any form of hate speech and violent extremism. As it relates to May 13 content, we quickly removed videos which were in violation of our Community Guidelines,” they explained.

“We continue to be on high alert and will aggressively remove any violative content, including videos, audio, livestreams, images, comments, links or other texts.”

On top of that, should any more of these TikTok video pop up, they urge the general public to ulitise the report option to stop its spread.

“Our community members can also use our in-app reporting function to immediately report any harmful content. To do so, users can simply press and hold a video and a prompt will appear for users to click ‘Report’,” they said.

“Since the lead up to the elections, we have been in constant communication with the relevant bodies, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), about accounts that are involved in severe or repeated on-platform violations.”

And with that, we thank TikTok for their efforts in ensuring that such content that can create racial tension and disharmony is taken down immediately.
