TikTok unavailable in US, app disappears from app store

MOSCOW: The TikTok social network has stopped opening for users in the US, its app has also disappeared from the App Store, a Sputnik/RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

Earlier, TikTok users in the US began receiving notifications in applications that the social network would stop working in the country on Jan 19. Users began publishing on X screenshots with a notification from the TikTok app. The text of the notification says that the social network will stop working on Jan 19 amid a ban on activities in the United States.

A Sputnik/RIA Novosti correspondent also verified that the app had disappeared from the App Store.

On Friday, the US Supreme Court denied TikTok a request to delay the ban on the social network in the US effective Jan 19, according to a court ruling seen by Sputnik/RIA Novosti. The company argued that the ban violated freedom of speech under the US Constitution. Trump takes office on Jan 20. The White House said the final decision on the fate of the Chinese social network in the US should be made by the new administration led by Trump due to the time frame for the ban to come into effect. Trump responded to the Supreme Court and White House decision by telling CNN that he would make his own decision.
