Freshly cooked food is always the best! The same thing applies to durians. The fresher it is, the tastier it is!
A TikToker from China recently visited a place in KL to satisfy her cravings for the king of fruits but instead of a fresh one, she paid RM144 for a frozen black thorn durian. In her IG reel @dongbeixuan, the woman was promised by the durian vendor who said that she could replace the durian with a new one in case the fruit was not up to par in terms of freshness.
The vendor then introduced her to a frozen Musang King which came all the way from Pahang, to which she asked for a fresh one.
“The fresh ones are still inedible,” the vendor told her.
She then got herself a frozen black thorn durian, which came with 2 free mangosteens. While frozen durians are common in China, she admitted to feeling a little surprised to get the same thing in KL.
Her video sparked a debate among Malaysian social media users, who thought it was not the best idea to eat frozen durians in Malaysia – one of the countries with biggest durian productions.
“You got yourself deceived. A frozen durian is not supposed to be that expensive.”
“It’s not even durian season now, and Pahang is only 2 hours away from KL, do you need to freeze the durian? I don’t think it’s local durian.”
“You’re deceived. This isn’t a black thorn durian.”
“The shape looks like a black thorn durian, but the color of the flesh doesn’t.”
“You’re in Malaysia but you go for a frozen durian? Are you okay?”
