Tim Curry: Actor famed for iconic role in Rocky Horror Picture Show dies

  • Prolific British actor Tim Curry, best known for his iconic role as Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80.
  • Having started his career on the West End stage in the musical Hair, Curry gained international fame reprising his Rocky Horror stage role in the 1975 cult classic film adaptation.
  • Throughout a distinguished career across stage and screen, Curry earned three Tony Award nominations for his performances in Amadeus, My Favourite Year, and Spamalot.
  • His notable screen credits included memorable roles in films such as Clue, Annie, and Muppet Treasure Island, as well as playing Pennywise the Clown in the 1990 TV adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel It.
  • After suffering a major stroke in July 2012 that left him using a wheelchair, Curry successfully transitioned to focus mainly on voice acting, for which he had previously won an Emmy Award.
