The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has strongly condemned the alleged killing of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in Madhyamgram and demanded a court-monitored probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure a fair investigation into the incidents of post-poll violence.
With less than 48 hours after the declaration of the West Bengal election results, Rath was shot dead in North 24 Parganas, late Wednesday night. The BJP had called the killing as a “targeted assassination”.
The TMC also alleged that three other TMC workers had also been killed over the last three days in separate incidents of political violence allegedly involving “BJP-backed miscreants,” despite the Model Code of Conduct remaining in force.
“We strongly condemn the brutal murder of Chandranath Rath in Madhyamgram tonight, along with the killing of three other TMC workers in incidents of post-poll violence allegedly carried out by BJP-backed miscreants over the last three days, despite the Model Code of Conduct being in force," the party wrote on X.
The party demanded the “strongest possible action” against those responsible and called for a court-monitored probe by the CBI to ensure a fair investigation.
“We demand the strongest possible action in this matter, including a court-monitored CBI investigation so that those responsible are identified and brought to justice without delay. Violence and political killings have no place in a democracy and the guilty must be held accountable at the earliest," the post said.
