If you’re making a trip to Kuala Terengganu or travelling up north from Johor with an electric vehicle, here is some good news ahead of the Chinese New year holidays. TNBX, the green energy arm of Tenaga Nasional Berhad has finally turned on its TNB Electron EV DC Charging stations at Ayer Keroh and Paka R&Rs.

Starting today, 20th January 2023, both TNB Electron hubs offer 2x 90kW DC chargers for free for a limited time. The Ayer Keroh chargers are located on R&R Ayer Keroh Northbound of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), while the Paka chargers are located Northbound on the East Coast Expressway (LPT). The TNB Electron charging hubs are operational 24 hours a day.

TNBX has not revealed the commercial pricing after the free trial period and we hope the cost of DC charging will be calculated based on kWh instead of time. Similar to fast chargers on smartphones, EV DC fast charging is often the fastest in the first 50% and it will start to slow down significantly when it reaches 80%. If you want to save time and money, it is best to stop DC charging at 80% and continue your journey until you need another top-up again.

To use these chargers, you’ll have to activate them using the Go To-U app which is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The Go To-U app offers a pro reservation feature where you can book your charging slots up to 7 days in advance. This can be useful for EV owners to reserve their slots in order to avoid long queues. The same app is also used to activate EV chargers located at Auto Bavaria showrooms as well as Hyundai Ara Damansara.

For more info, you can visit TNBX’s website.

Go To-U Malaysia recently launched their own branded EV charging hub at Rekascape, Cyberjaya and it is also offered for free until the end of January. Unfortunately, the DC chargers became offline shortly after launch and they are still not available today, at the time of writing.
