Take a moment to breathe—and reflect. Right now, as you know, there are things you can control in life and there are things you can’t even control. At some points, you might feel like you’re lagging behind. You look around and see some close friends of yours are reaching milestones, achieving their dreams, and finding their purpose. They flash their comfortable house and expensive cars while you’re somewhat stuck with stuff you wish you could move on. Of course, it’s pretty easy to fall into the trap of comparing your own journey to theirs, but let me tell you something important.

You are not falling behind actually. You are simply on your unique path, at your unique pace.

While it’s easy to make such comparisons earlier, you shouldn’t. It won’t be apple-to-apple kind of comparison to begin with. You don’t know their journey and they don’t know yours. So please. Don’t. I know, you are feeling a little bit of FOMO after seeing those reels of success stories. After scrolling through social media and see those accomplishments made by your friends and their picture-perfect lives, it’s hard not to feel a pang of self-doubt. Of course. Then you begin to question your choices, your present ‘pathetic’ level of achievements, and wonder if you should be sleeping only 2 hours and working your ass off for 22 hours. No, you do not need more working hours.

Listen, here’s the truth. One, you are already working hard enough. All you need is opportunities. Find them. Two, life is not a race. I’m going to repeat this despite you’ve been reading it already many times before—each of us has our timeline, our own pace and our definition of what it means to flourish. And comparing yourself to others is like comparing apples to durians. You’re not being fair to yourself. And three, success is not a linear path. It’s a series of peaks and valleys, victories and setbacks, moments of triumph and moments of doubt. Life is colourful, else it will be boring.

So, chill. You know what, you aren’t alone. Many people around you may also be grappling with their sense of falling behind. It’s just that they are keeping quiet about it. Listen, you are not falling behind. All you need to do is to have a little faith in your journey, have complete trust in your abilities and believe that your time will come. You don’t need to work harder. Find opportunities out there instead. Everything will fall into places.

Your story is being written, one chapter at a time. Embrace the journey. Have faith that everything is going to be okay in the end.
