Three foreign prostitutes waiting for customers, each dressed in ballet dancing anime costumes, a nurse, and an office girl, were shocked when the Penang Immigration Department (JIM) ambushed their hotel on Jalan Zainal Abidin recently.
During the 9 p.m. raid, a Laotian woman sobbed, pleading with authorities to release her before offering them a bribe of RM16,000, as reported by the Malaysia Gazette.
Nur Zulfa Ibrahim, Director of JIM Penang, stated that they carried out the operation after obtaining public information regarding the activities of a foreign prostitution network hidden behind a hotel.
She explained that the raid resulted in the arrest of three foreign prostitutes aged 25 to 29 years old, including Thai, Laotian, and Vietnamese nationals.
"Preliminary checks revealed that each of them had been in the nation for at least two weeks and that several of them frequently fly in and out of the country for personal reasons.
"Further inquiry revealed that each provided sex services via the website at a charge of RM240 per session. We do not rule out the possibility that these people are being taken care of by a syndicate and the customers are VIPs (famous people) based on the fee charged," she stated when questioned about the raid's location.
In addition, Nur Zulfa stated that one of the arrested foreign prostitutes attempted to pay a bribe of RM16,000 in order to be released.
"We cannot rule out the notion that the syndicate is protecting the women while the customers are VIPs. During the raid, all the women involved were in their respective rooms," she stated.
Mobile phones, lubrication oil, condoms, cash, and contraceptive pills were also found during the raid on the three women's rooms.
She further stated that all arrestees were transferred to the immigration office for additional inquiries in compliance with the Immigration Act 1959/63.
