Toddler diagnosed with ovarian cancer, family appeals for help

KOTA KINABALU: A couple was left shocked when they discovered that their 19-month-old daughter’s ongoing cries since August were due to stage 3 ovarian cancer.

Daneen Auni Riksi was diagnosed on Oct 2 after undergoing surgery at the Sabah Women and Children's Hospital (HWKKS) in Likas.

Her mother, Fallarystia Sintom, 25, said she was shocked by the diagnosis, as ovarian cancer is rare in children.

Doctors are investigating the unusual case, and Daneen has had her right ovary removed.

After a sudden drop in her blood levels on Sept 28, she was referred to HWKKS, where a 13.5 cm tumour was found and removed.

Daneen is set to begin chemotherapy once she recovers from surgery.

Her family is facing financial difficulties. Fallarystia and her husband, Riksi Tahir, 25, struggle to travel between their home in Kota Marudu and the hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

Riksi, a firefighter in Kudat, has appealed for public donations to help cover medical costs.
