Toddler who was taught by parents how to call 999 saves mum after she collapses

A three-year-old, who was taught by his parents to call 999, rang emergency services after he saw his mother collapse.

James dialled 999 after his mother, Georgia, suffered a sudden drop in blood pressure caused by postural hypotension and severe dehydration, as she was putting her five-month-old down for a nap.

The call was answered by South Yorkshire Police Handler Jen, who asked James if he could “tickle mummy to wake her up”. Georgia later regained consciousness whilst James was still on the call.

Appearing on BBC Breakfast, Georgia explained that she and her husband had taught James what to do in an emergency following a visit to the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield.

"It was a fantastic opportunity to teach James who to call, what to do if there was ever an emergency and he needed something, especially when I'm on my own with him at home when I was pregnant.”
