KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, has responded to the remarks made by Puchong MP, Yeo Bee Yin, who publicly celebrated the High Court’s dismissal of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s judicial review application concerning the Adendum decree.
In a Facebook post, Mohamad, affectionately known as Tok Mat, said that he too is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to celebrate the court’s decision regarding the Penang Tunnel issue.
Though he did not elaborate further, the statement is believed to refer to the ongoing corruption trial involving DAP adviser, Lim Guan Eng, concerning the Penang Tunnel project.
"I am also waiting to celebrate when the court officially inaugurates the Penang Tunnel, maybe by mid-2026," he wrote.
The post garnered over 1,800 comments and was shared 695 times, particularly among Umno supporters.
Mohamad’s response came in light of Umno leaders' disappointment with the remarks made by some DAP figures regarding the High Court’s decision to reject Najib’s judicial review application.
Yeo’s open celebration of the ruling sparked anger among Umno leaders, who condemned the comments as inappropriate, rude, and politically arrogant, demonstrating a lack of sensitivity.
The situation escalated further when former DAP Member of Parliament, Tony Pua, defended the court’s decision, stating that it represents justice and highlights DAP's role in the fight against kleptocracy in Malaysia.
“To those who criticise us for lacking ‘humanity’, yet continue to support the criminal, no one is stopping you,” Pua remarked. “However, don’t stop the rest of us Malaysians from celebrating the justice that has been served.”
Among those criticising Pua's comments were Umno Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh, Pahang Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, and Umno Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Furthermore, Umno President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, urged certain parties to “not pour oil on the fire” amidst the rising tensions.
Following this, Dr Akmal suggested that Umno delegates raise the issue of the party withdrawing from the Unity Government during the upcoming Umno General Assembly scheduled for January. - December 23, 2025
