Tokyo ready to help solve Navotas fire

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Monday that Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike is willing to assist in putting out the smoldering fire at the sanitary landfill in Navotas City that has triggered an environmental problem in the metropolis.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said Koike conveyed her openness to extend assistance when they met on the sidelines of the 3rd G-NETS Leaders Summit in Tokyo.

Artes said he and Koike also discussed traffic and transport management, disaster resilience, and potential collaborative projects between Metro Manila and Tokyo.

Artes also delivered a speech during the summit, highlighting Metro Manila’s disaster response efforts. Koike said a separate meeting between the MMDA and the Tokyo Fire Department will be arranged to explore specific areas of assistance, particularly technical support related to the landfill situation.
