KUALA LUMPUR, October 24 — The mission has been delayed.
The followup to the Tom Cruise led action film Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One has moved its release date to nearly a year later than its original date of June 28, 2024 to May 23,2025.
The eighth instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise which will be a direct follow up to Dead Reckoning Part One halted its production due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike as reported by Variety.
Paramount Pictures and Skydance also announced that the sequel initially titled as Dead Reckoning Part Two, will now have a new name.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mission Impossible Eight, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, is currently being filmed with Imax cameras and will be carried in Imax theatres for a full three weeks.
This is after Dead Reckoning Part One hardly played on Imax due to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer dominating the premium format.
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One grossed US$567.5 million (RM2.7 billion) globally.
The sequel will see stars such as Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg and Vanessa Kirby expected to return.
Aside from the eighth Mission Impossible film, Paramount had also pushed the release date for the A Quiet Place prequel titled A Quiet Place: Day One from March 8, 2024 to June 28, 2024.
