- Magic circle law firm Freshfields has apologised unreservedly after leaked internal emails revealed remarks about Middle Eastern sovereign wealth investors.
- Ethan Klingsberg, co-head of the firm's US corporate team, suggested in an email that Middle Eastern sovereign wealth money should probably be excluded from a planned legal AI venture.
- The email chain, which was between Mr Klingsberg and global managing partner Alan Mason, was accidentally forwarded to a large internal distribution list.
- Freshfields stated that the comment does not reflect the position or beliefs of the firm and expressed sincere regret for any offence caused.
- The firm reiterated its commitment to the region, highlighting its longstanding relationships with key clients and offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, and Riyadh.
