Top Line, Japanese firm partner for EV charging

TOP Line Business Development Corp. said on Wednesday that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Jigowatts Inc., a Japan-based electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions company, to explore the installation and deployment of charging stations.

The proposed EV charging stations, targeted for initial deployment in the first half of 2027, are expected to complement Light Fuels’ existing mobility services, and equip select stations and those of affiliates Pier88 and Bay Mall in Liloan, Cebu.

Top Line said specific locations were still being evaluated.

“Through our collaboration with Topline Group, we look forward to bringing our electric vehicle charging expertise and solutions to the Philippines, while exploring practical charging options that can complement its existing services and help prepare its stations for the future of mobility,” Jigowatts CEO Tomoki Shibata said.

Top Line said the partnership formed part of a broader strategy to prepare its portfolio for the continued growth of electric mobility and evolving transportation trends.

“As electric mobility continues to develop, accessible charging infrastructure will play an important role in supporting more motorists who choose electric vehicles,” Top Line Chairman, President and CEO Eugene Erik Lim said.

“This initiative is part of our broader commitment to keeping Topline Group’s portfolio future-ready, as we continue to identify opportunities across Light Fuels, Bay Mall and Pier88 that align with emerging market trends,” he added.

The company also said that as it expands its footprint in the Visayas, it would continue to pursue strategic investments and partnerships that would further broaden its offerings and reinforce its position in the country’s energy and mobility sector.

Top Line shares on Wednesday closed unchanged at P1.75 apiece.
