Initiative highlights realities of breastfeeding while supporting mothers, families and postpartum care centres

Breastfeeding can be both rewarding and challenging, with mothers often navigating physical, emotional and practical demands along the way. Toshiba Lifestyle Malaysia is addressing these realities through its “Empowering Every Mother’s Journey” initiative, held in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Month 2026.

The initiative brings together mothers, experts and industry partners for conversations around breastfeeding, maternal well-being and the importance of building supportive environments for mothers and newborns.

“By bringing together technology, education and community care, we hope to support mothers with practical solutions and meaningful insights as they navigate important moments with greater confidence,” said Toshiba Lifestyle Malaysia head of brand management Vanice Foo.

The event was officiated by chairperson of the Parliament Select Committee for Women, Children and Community Development, Yeo Bee Yin, who highlighted the role of families, communities and healthcare professionals in supporting mothers.

“Breastfeeding is not only a mother’s personal journey. It involves families, communities and healthcare professionals. Mothers may face many challenges as they navigate motherhood, and initiatives like this highlight the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in creating a more supportive environment for mothers and babies,” she said.

The workshop featured a panel discussion with Yeo, certified lactation consultant and infant care expert Elizabeth Richard, as well as model, ceramist and wellness advocate Natasha Hudson.

The discussion explored the realities of breastfeeding, including the importance of education, professional guidance, support systems and informed choices.

“Breast milk provides important nutritional and protective benefits that support a baby’s growth, development and overall well-being. However, breastfeeding can also come with physical, emotional and practical challenges.

“Consistent education, professional guidance and a supportive environment are essential in helping mothers feel more confident throughout their breastfeeding journey,” said Richard.

Parenthood founder and forum facilitator Teresa Chin said the initiative brings together different voices to address maternal and newborn well-being.

“We are proud to bring together experts, mothers and industry partners to address a topic of national interest in supporting maternal and newborn well-being,” she said.

Hudson also shared that every mother experiences motherhood differently, with each journey shaped by its own challenges and milestones.

“Having the right support can make a meaningful difference. Conversations like these are important reminders that a mother’s well-being matters too,” she said.

Supporting postpartum care centres

Beyond the forum, Toshiba Lifestyle Malaysia is extending its support through a donation drive for The Nesting Place Confinement Centre, Kimporo Postnatal Rejuvenation Centre and LYC Mother & Child Centre.

The brand is donating refrigerators, washing machines, dryers and dishwashers worth RM60,000 in total.

The refrigerators are intended to support safe and hygienic storage of expressed breast milk, while the other appliances are designed to help improve convenience and comfort within postpartum care environments.

The contribution has earned Toshiba Lifestyle Malaysia a Parenthood Records title for Most Home Appliances Donated to Confinement Centres, recognising the brand’s efforts to support mothers, babies and postpartum care facilities.

Bringing home comforts into focus

The initiative also features the 5-Senses Toshiba Lifestyle Experience Zone, which explores how home appliances and everyday comforts can contribute to a more comfortable and nurturing environment for mothers, babies and families.

Inspired by motherhood, breastfeeding and the postpartum experience, the zone allows guests to explore Toshiba’s home solutions through the five senses while highlighting the role of the home in supporting family well-being.

Through its latest initiative, Toshiba Lifestyle Malaysia is placing greater focus on the realities surrounding breastfeeding while extending that conversation beyond mothers themselves to families, healthcare professionals, communities and the spaces where postpartum care takes place.
