Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is eager for a strong link with the U21 setup.

Postecoglou is keen for the U21s to play to a similar system to the seniors.

He said, "I think it is a combination. Simon Davies is head of academy and we speak regularly. He has a real clear idea of how an academy structure should look and work. I think it can't be a separate entity to the first-team.

"I've never been one to say they have to play exactly the same because what you're doing at academy level is developing players, not developing systems. Them playing a little bit different is not a bad thing but in terms of the way we train, the intensity of our game, the tempo of our game, there is a clear link there.

"The last thing you want is young players coming up to our environment and really struggling because they are doing things they've never seen or felt before. Simon is the link to all that. My focus is more on the first-team obviously but the more we can get that aligned then in these kind of situations where we're down on numbers or we get some injuries, if there is a left winger in the Under-21s well here's his opportunity and that's what we need to create."
