Tottenham target Roberto De Zerbi to lead relegation fight, offering a lucrative long-term deal to the former Brighton boss

TOTTENHAM Hotspur are reportedly closing in on the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager.

The club have targeted the Italian as their preferred candidate to lead their fight against Premier League relegation.

De Zerbi is available after leaving Marseille by mutual consent in February.

Tottenham parted ways with interim boss Igor Tudor on Sunday after just seven games in charge.

The north London club sit just one point above the relegation zone with seven matches left.

They have failed to win a league game in 2026.

De Zerbi established a positive reputation in England during a two-year spell as Brighton boss between 2022 and 2024.

The Athletic and Talksport reported that progress has been made in talks.

Tottenham are offering a lucrative long-term deal to convince the 46-year-old to take charge immediately.

The Italian had reportedly been reticent to take the job before knowing which division Tottenham will be in next season.

Tottenham have not been outside the top flight of English football since the 1977-78 season.

Despite boasting a new stadium and being among the world’s top 10 richest clubs, they risk a humiliating relegation.

Just a few years ago they were Champions League regulars under Mauricio Pochettino.

They reached the Champions League final in 2019.

Tottenham ended a 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League last season under Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was dismissed despite that victory after the club finished 17th in the Premier League.

Thomas Frank succeeded him but was sacked in February after two wins in 17 league games.

Tottenham hope to make an appointment well before their next match at Sunderland on April 12.
